Albatross MKII

Albatross Marine was a British company active from 1949 to 1966, specialized in the production of light motorboats in aluminum using the construction techniques of the aircraft of the time with the reverse riveting method, which guaranteed a better seal. Founded by Peter Hives and Archie Peace, the company has built around 1300 boats. The most sought-after models are those with the Coventry Climax engine, which offered more power. Famous Albatross owners include Stirling Moss, Brigitte Bardot, Prince Rainier of Monaco, Prince Philip.
During the years of activity, Albatross Marine has attracted the attention of celebrities and sports boat enthusiasts for its combination of innovative design and top-level performance, ideal for water skiing. Albatross Marine production ended in 1966, leaving a legacy of legendary boats in the nautical scene.
This Albatross available for sale is the 1955 MK2 Super Sport model, the version for those who required more horsepower and fitted with a Coventry – Climax 1097cc FWA engine; this engine was also used in some racing cars, such as Cooper-Climax and Lotus-Climax. This is a high performance overhead cam unit and was capable of around 72bhp at 6200rpm. and a speed of 40 mph. They appear from factory records Climax Albatross purchased 15 FWA climax engines in 1955 and 1956. Boat is in good condition but needs restoration, engine is currently landed and needs overhaul.
